Let's Get Acquainted Linky Party!!!

It is time to get Acquainted with your fellow teacher bloggers!!!
Topic- Tic Tac Toe
How it Works:  Look at the graphic below.  It is a Tic Tac Toe board filled with different categories.  You will post about three of these categories but they have to make Tic Tac Toe.  For example, you can choose to write about 3 topics that go vertical, or 3 topics that go horizontal, or three topics that go diagonal.
I am doing the first vertical column.
I went to ____ College and favorite Memory
I went to Tennessee State University.  It is located in Nashville, Tennessee.  It is a Historically Black University with a rich history and has been around for 101 years.  My two sisters also went to TSU so I guess it is a family tradition.   My favorite college memory would have to be from freshman year.  I met my husband on the second day that I was there.  We became friends and the rest was history. We are both from the same hometown but had never met before.  I am grateful for my college experience and thankful that it had such an impact on my life.  Go tigers!!!
My first year of teaching
All I can say is oh goodness! My first year of teaching was crazy.  When I first accepted my teaching position it was for 2nd grade.  I was so excited because I student taught in second grade and I really felt like I was ready.  Well....a week before school started I was told I would actually be teaching 3rd grade.  I was also told that I would be in a portable.  But not just any portable but a double wide portable that would be shared with another 3rd grade teacher.  This was not a big deal accept for the fact that the portable did not have a wall separating the two classrooms.  We went a week with this big open space and two classes.  Can we say awkward. lol.  Anyways, they finally built a wall and a door and everything was fine.  Only it wasn't. I only had 9 students.  So you know what that means.  Third grade was low and kindergarten was high.  They needed a teacher to go to kindergarten and guess who they chose......ME!  Six weeks into the year and my world was rocked.  They came to my half of a portable and told me and I cried right there in front of both principals.  I was very sad about it but I saw two positives out of it.  One-They gave me money to go on a shopping spree to get kindergarten things for the room.  Two-They gave me 3 days to get my room ready with no kids.  I thought I would be moved in the building but no.  So there I was a new teacher stuck in a tiny half of a portable with 20 kindergarteners and no restroom.  Let's just say I had a crazy year.  All I can do now is laugh about it.  It really shaped me to be a flexible teacher and say it is what it is and just move on.
My favorite grade to teach and why
First Grade of Course!!! I really love teaching this age group because they are a little more mature than kindergarten.  This year will be my 3rd year in first grade and I will be grade level chair.  I am kind of nervous about the responsibility but I think it will be a learning experience.  If you have any advice for me, please leave me some comments on good ideas for a grade level chair.
Well that is it.  I hope you will link up too and join in all of the fun.  I cant wait to read your posts and I look forward to commenting on a lot of them.  Have a great Sunday!!!
Remember you have all week to link up but everyone that links up on Sunday by 11:59pm will receive my Write the Room Centers Packet from my TPT store.
Lastly, please read the post from the person before you and after you in the linky and show them some love by commenting, following, or giving them a shout out etc.
Please include the linky button and link it back to my blog.

  2. Advice for being grade level chair: Delegate responsibilities. You can't be an effective teacher and do everything asked of the grade level chair by yourself. It would be very easy to burn out. Make it a team effort and hold all of your team members accountable.

I hope this helps. I'll be back later to link up.

  3. So glad this linky is back, it's one of my favorites. Thanks for hosting this.

  4. Latoya I'm so glad I found your blog!! You have the best linky parties. I missed you while you were MIA for a little while. Glad your back! Thanks for hosting. ;)

    1. Oh I also forgot to mention as team chair or team leader, just be yourself and delegate. It helped me out with time and energy by allowing the members on my team to share responsibilities. It helps when you have a helpful and great team :) I know you'll be great!

  5. Thanks for the linky! I taught fourth grade in a portable. 30 big kids in a cramped space! I now teach 18 (or fewer) kindergarteners in a big room. Much better! :-)

  6. Thanks for the opportunity to link up! I taught 1st grade for a couple of years...boy, they wore me out! I loved the younger grades when I first started teaching, but now that I have children of my own and they are older (10, 9, & 7), I have found that I prefer the older grades :) Still love the younger kiddos, but prefer teaching the older ones!

  7. Latoya, thank you for allowing me to link up! This was my first EVER blog post! =) I have been following you and the blogworld for quite some time, but I didn't think starting to blog during my first year of teaching would be easy! I love this tic-tac-toe board and I look forward to linking up in the future!

  8. I love teaching first grade too! They are a little more independent than Kindergarteners but not as moody as second graders (sometimes!@)

  11. Thanks for hosting. Nana(Ruth) the retired one is trying to figure it all out. Autumn is busy with hosting a party for the 4th and being mom to a 2 year old.

  12. I love this linky idea! I'm not a teacher (yet!); I'm finishing up my senior year of college as an elementary ed major, but I can't wait to start student teaching this next year! I loved reading about your first year of teaching and how you got through some of the struggles :)

  17. I know that this is not hard. I started a blog last August then didn't really do much with it. I am moving schools and grades so I have started another blog but have forgotten so many things. That's what I get for leaving it set. Anyway, I'd love to join your linky but can't figure out how to do it. How do i get the link on my site etc,?
